Ready for the Marathon
November 19, 2010 at 8:13 pm | Posted in General, Miguel | Leave a commentI have followed the prescription for my recovery. Keep the inflammation down in my foot with thorough icing after my workouts. Also, the harder workouts at the beginning of my recovery were on the bicycle to this day, I can still not do sprint work or run up steep hills because the ankle is still strengthening. These work out will have to wait until sometime next year. Yes, I will be able to run the Space Coast Marathon on Sunday November 28, but I am being realistic in my expectations that this will most likely not be one of my fastest efforts. Nor have I trained for speed either. It is a long and patient effort to heal tendon tears. I have used a combination of rest and physical rehabilitation to help the damaged tissue heal. There is always at least one day of rest after every running workout. Sometimes if I feel I need it, there are two days off, especially after the long runs. As the healing continues there is possibility that scar tissue and calcium deposits can develop at the site of the injury. Hopefully that will not happen. It has taken 25 weeks, but I feel extremely grateful at my good fortune to be able to run a marathon now.
